Health Insurance
Health insurance is a type of insurance product that specifically guarantees the health or care costs of members of the insurance if they fall sick or have an accident. Broadly speaking, there are two types of treatment offered by insurance companies, namely in-patient treatment and out-patient treatment.
In Indonesia, PT Askes Indonesia is a social insurance company that organizes health insurance for its members, mainly civil servants and non-civil servants. Their children are also guaranteed up to the age of 21 years. Pensioners with their wives or husbands are also guaranteed for life.
Outside the group the government also provides health insurance programs for low-income residents, now called Jamkesmas, community health insurance, in addition to the program funded by the State Budget, a number of provincial and district / city governments also have similar programs, namely Jamkesda and Jamkesos such as, for example, in Musi Banyuasin district in 2002, Jembrana since 2003 in DIY since 2003 and South Sumatra province, called Jamsoskes, since early January 2009, although in early March 2010 the central government examined the possibility of banning health insurance through the APBD
In 2010,120.2 million of around 237 million Indonesians had health insurance provided by either PT Askes Indonesia, PT Jamsostek, PT Asabri or through the Jamkesmas program or other insurance.
Some insurance companies and life insurance companies have also marketed health insurance programs with a variety of different variants. In general, insurance companies that conduct health insurance programs work closely with hospital providers both directly and through intermediary institutions as hospital network management assistants.
